Calves are born about once a year.
It's very important for them to drink their mother's milk within the first few hours.
This is a special yellowish liquid called colostrum, which is inedible for humans.
It contains numerous antibodies that make the calf less susceptible to diseases.
After about five days, the calf receives enough colostrum and then drinks normal cow's milk for about ten months, until it is able to feed on grass and other plants.
